With just days before the first Miss Universe Philippines pageant is held in the country, one of its contestants, Christelle Abello, received another blessing after being launched as the 2021 Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl following in the footsteps of this year’s calendar girl actress Sanya Lopez.
“I’m so overwhelmed and I’m so thrilled and excited all at the same time. It’s just a blessing from above and I can’t actually believe that I was chosen to be the Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl. This is an opportunity of a lifetime and I’m grateful for taking on this role and I really do want to give it my best. I think what really resonates with me is having the values of appreciating all of our blessings in life because it keeps me ganado sa buhay. I’m just so happy to be part of such an iconic and historical brand,” she shared during her virtual press launch held last October 20.
The 26-year-old Communications graduate from the California State University San Marcos admitted she knows she has big shoes to fill.
“Of course, there’s some sort of pressure because I’m just a simple girl na I’m just here as a candidate for Miss Universe Philippines and then this happened for me. So there definitely is some pressure because I’m compared to other previous calendar girls like Sanya Lopez and Pia Wurtzbach. Parang ang taas na nila so of course there’s so much pressure on me because I want to be on the same level as them and of course as a person I want to rightfully deliver the role as a Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl. So there is some nerves there but it is exciting all at once. I’m very happy, very grateful, and sobrang thrilled. The world of pageantry fascinated me so much because I witnessed phenomenal women and beautiful and confident women like Pia Wurtzbach who made a mark in this world. And they empowered me to say that I can do this too.” she said. Other actresses who also modeled for the calendar also include Marian Rivera, Arci Munoz, Solenn Heussaff, and Myrtle Sarrosa.
To prepare for her calendar shoot, Christelle said she wanted to be both physically and emotionally ready. “I thought it was a great way to inspire and uplift people with the theme of the calendar and I really enjoyed and I hope it can uplift our people to really push forward in these trying times even though we are facing difficulty right now but we can still be ganado sa bahay. I prepared for this shoot by keeping fit and staying healthy. I just made sure that I did a lot of cardio, weights, and I eat healthy. I do like to unwind every once in a while. I do like to keep it sweet so I tend to go for mixed drinks. It’s just a way to unwind for me. When we would visit our families dito sa Pilipinas andun sila nag iinuman and yung mga pinsan ko ang nagturo sa akin ng mga mixed drinks kaya it’s always a good time with them,” she shared.
Christelle will be representing her father’s province of Aklan in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant happening in Baguio city on October 25, Sunday.
