With his upcoming horror film U-Turn set to be released for online screening starting October 30, director Derick Cabrido shared the experience of directing his stars Kim Chiu, Tony Labrusca, and JM De Guzman.

Kalog on the set. Nag-enjoy ako makatrabaho siya kasi madali siya pasunurin and alam niya kagad kung ano yung kinakailangan dun sa eksena or kung paano niya idi-deliver yung character niya in a particular scene. Challenging ito para sa artista and kung paano nila buhayin yung character and at the same time challenging siya kasi nakakapagod siya emotionally and physically.” he shared during the U-Turn virtual presscon last October 7.

The documentary producer-turned-filmmaker said he is proud of his latest film which is a remake of a 2016 Indian film of the same name. “Kaya siya U-Turn is kasi lahat ng incident nangyayari doon mismo sa U-turn sa kung saan doon nagsimula yung gulo nung buhay ng mga characters. For me kasi mystery siya. You really have to follow the stories, yung mga characters and then kung ano yung nangyayari sa kanila para maintindihan mo kung ano yung nangyari dun sa mismong multo na nang-vi-victim na characters para at least malaman mo yung back story niya. it’s like a puzzle na kailangan mo buohin yung mga pieces. Kumpletuhin mo muna para makita mo yung buong picture,” he explained.

The film centers around the life of a journalist played by Kim Chiu. “Basically she’s a journalist online and gusto niya mapataas pa lalo yung career niya and then meron siyang mga wrong decisions na ginawa which is naging part siya ng isang crime. From there, kailangan niya i-expose kung ano yung nangyari sa buong crime na yun which is pati ung family niya kasi naapektuhan na pati yung personal niyang buhay. Iba yung horror niya dito at saka iba yung character ni Kim, Tony (Labrusca), at ni JM (De Guzman) dito. For me, medyo relatable siya and at the same time, yung storya niya ay napapanahon especially sa kung ano yung nangyayari ngayon na gusto natin malaman kung ano yung real news sa fake news. I think malaking bagay yung message nung pelikula,” he said.

Direk Derick also admits he is also looking forward to launching his first digital movie online and to make it available for viewing through four different platforms. “Kaya kami na-e-excite is because hopefully we’ll be able to reach more and more people because we have so many ways of bringing the movie to them. Hindi pa tayo nakakapanuod ng sine sa sinehan. ngayon meron tayong bagong pelikula at mapapanuod na siya,” he added.
