John Denver Trending, the movie that swept awards in this year’s Cinemalaya, including Best Picture and Best Screenplay, is set to compete in the 24th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea this October.
On Thursday, the Jansen Magpusao and Meryll Soriano starrer was named as an official entry to the festival’s New Currents Section, where it will compete with films from other countries, including Kyrgyzstan, China, Iran, Taiwan, India, Vietnam, South Korea, and Japan.
Directed by Arden Rod Condez, John Denver Trending is a movie based on true stories about a Grade 8 student who becomes a victim of cyberbullying after one of his classmates accused him of stealing an iPad.

Other local films that will take part in the 2019 BIFF are Raymund Gutierrez’s Verdict, Isabel Sandoval’s Lingua Franca, and Brillante Mendoza’s Mindanao starring Judy Ann Santos and Allen Dizon.
