Untrue, the suspense-thriller movie starring Xian Lim and Cristine Reyes, is the opening film of the QCinema International Film Festival this year.
At the festival's press launch held on Tuesday, it was announced that the Sigrid Andrea Bernardo-film will kick off the 10-day event, while the Singaporean drama, Anthony Chen's Wet Season, is set to be the finale.
Untrue, which features the first pairing of Viva talents Xian and Cristine, follows the story of two lonely Filipinos based in Georgia, who will find solace and companionship in each other until a strange apparition begins to haunt their relationship.
The movie is one of the 60 cinematic works from both local and international filmmakers, which will take part in the 7th edition of the QCinema Festival.
With the theme "Rising Wave", the film festival "focuses on the strides Asian filmmakers have been making in the world of cinema and recognizes the growing number of women filmmakers participating in competitions for documentaries and short films," according to online blog Out of Town.
QCinema will be presenting its entries under 10 categories: Asian Next Wave; QC Shorts Competition; DocQC; Screen International; New Horizons; RainbowQC; Special Screenings; Viva Classics; and Centennial Classics.
With screenings in selected cinemas in Quezon City -- including Gateway mall, Trinoma, Robinsons Galleria, UPFI Cine Adarna, Cinema 76 Anonas, and Cinema Centenario -- the 2019 QCinema International Festival will run from October 13 to October 22.
