Sharon Cuneta reveals it was Gabby Concepcion who reached out for mini-reunion to happen

Over the weekend, Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion made headlines after reuniting for the first time in years.

Cuneta and Concepcion, whose whirlwind romance remains as one of the most-talked-about in showbiz up to this day, surprised attendees at the Gabay Guro 2019 event with a duet.

According to Sharon, it was Gabby who sought ways to make the reunion at the event happen.

“Actually the truth is, nagulat din kami, we weren’t supposed to sing together. I don’t even know that he’s going to be there. I prepared two songs, and then he asked a friend of mine if he could talk to me,” the Megastar said during the presscon for her upcoming concert with Regine Velasquez-Alcasid titled Iconic.

She then went on: “And I said, ‘You know time has passed and I think it’s okay.' It was nice we talked, so we’re okay and just right there, kasi andon din si Pops Fernandez and the people from PLDT... So sabi ko it was nice din because I saw the reaction, how warm the people were still into our team up."

While the duet of the former couple almost brought the Mall of Asia Arena down, some noticed the lack of spark between them.

“Siguro naman mas nakakatakot kung may nararamdaman kami sa isa’t isa,” aniya. “Parang mas importante na may nararamdaman ‘yung audience, parang ‘yung kilig na it was so overwhelming na parang wow, the reaction was ‘uy it's still there, the chemistry,’" she stated.

According to Sharon, fans know that she's happily married so that in itself should leave no room for questions about having that 'chemistry.'

“I think the chemistry cannot go away, you cannot fake it. They know that I am happily married, they know that he has a family also, na magkahiwalay na kami ng buhay na ilang taon na,” she said.

Sharon and Gabby, known nowadays to fans of their onscreen tandem as #ShaGab, was supposed to celebrate their 35th year wedding anniversary had they not decided to part ways.

“Dapat 35 years na kaming mag-asawa e. As a matter of fact today [Setyembre 23] naalala ko lang, naalala ko kahapon actually," she said.

Then, she went on: "It was so unplanned ‘yung kagabi at mas importante sa amin ‘yung reaction ng mga tao. Ako nagulat rin ako na 'really up to now?’ And even on IG, Twitter and FB, I get a lot of requests (na) I hope that before you slow down or retire, please do a movie.”

But is she ever open to doing a project with him soon?

“Pero alam mo bahala na ang Diyos doon. I know we also make plans but it’s really God's plan ang nasusunod," she stated.

According to Cuneta, she is happy about how things are between them right now.

“I think it was also nice to show everyone na okay na kami, maayos na kami, hindi na kami magkagalit. I think that’s what more important,” she remarked.

Meanwhile, Sharon Cuneta is gearing up for her two-night concert with Regine Velasquez-Alcasid which is happening on October 18 and 19 at the Araneta Coliseum.
