‘Verdict’ is PH entry to 2020 Oscars

After winning the special jury prize in the Horizons (Orizzonti) section of this year's Venice Fim Festival, 'Verdict', a Filipino film about domestic abuse, was selected as the country's official submission to the International Feature Film category of the 92nd Academy Awards, the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) confirmed on Thursday.In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Raymund Ribay Gutierrez shared that 'Verdict' was inspired by a true story. "This is what's happening. Things are not black and white. The law is not always fair. Filmmaking is about life and I just want to show how life is and at this stage of my career, I am interested in the serious side of life," he said. Produced by Raymund's mentor Brillante Mendoza, 'Verdict' was screened at the recently concluded 3rd Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP). "We are pleased to announce that the movie VERDICT, produced by CenterStage Productions, has been chosen as the official Philippine Film Entry to the International Feature Film (formerly Foreign Language Film) Category for the 92nd Annual Academy Awards or The Oscars.
