EXCLUSIVE: Baron Geisler reveals how he got the honorary title of ‘Datu’

Last September 10, Baron Geisler was conferred with an honorary title of Datu by the royal family of King Raja Mohammadmamay Hasan Abdurajak and Queen Maria Makiling Helen Fatima Nasaria Panolino Abdurajak, the heirs and successors to the throne of the Sultanate of Sulu and North Borneo. The couple was inspired by Baron's remarkable comeback and deeply moved by his powerful testimony after meeting him at a party. They also believe he deserves the title because of his potential as an inspirational role model for the youth and ambassador for peace because of his newfound spiritual maturity.

“I met Raja and Queen Helen at the birthday party of Atty. Joe Villanueva, the head pastor and CEO of Shikainah and Knights of the King Circle Incorporated International held at Manila Hotel two weeks ago. They called me up to the stage so I shared my testimony with everybody, kung paano ako chinange ni God and kung ano yung mga paghihirap na naranasan ko sa jail. Even my memory nasira, na-trauma, but because of submitting to God and His calling, he restored me back to sanity and I’m very grateful for that. Natuwa si Queen and King sa akin to the point na nag-message yung secretary nila the next day na, ‘King and Queen wants to give you the honorary title of Datu.’ I feel very honored and grateful,” he told PUSH

The FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano actor admitted he never expected to receive a title after their chance meeting. “When I met them, of course I was dumbfounded because when they were introduced as king and queen, I didn’t know who they were until I googled them. Wow, they owned oil. Halos lahat ng oil sa Mindanao. And for a simple guy like me, an actor, just a regular guy, na-notice nila na puwede nila ako nila gamitin to spread peace,” he said.

Baron said that he plans to do good with his new honorary title. “Nanggaling mismo sa kanila na they can see that I could be very useful as an ambassador of peace to inspire the youth all over the Philippines. So for me that’s a very great responsibility and I’m praying to God everyday na huwag Niya akong pabayaan and bigyan Niya ako ng wisdom to do my duties and what is asked of me and also to have that kind of grace and diplomacy gaya nila Raja and Queen. Part of our mission is to give away bibles and feed the needy and also build churches there and support yung mga mahihirap na mga pastors in Mindanao. And also to promote peace and unity to all beliefs or religion. As much as we want to share our mission and vision with the rest of the world, yung iba baka hindi nila matanggap, imbis na matuwa sila baka mainsulto pa sila so it’s not us who’s leading it, it’s actually God we’re asking and the Holy Spirit to guide us wherever we go,” he shared.

Another important part of Baron’s advocacy is to instill a stronger sense of national pride in the youth. “Para sa mga kabataan, bago nila mithiin na pumunta sa ibang bansa kaagad, sa America, sa Europe, siguro mag-travel muna sila all over the Philippines para makita nila yung difference. Minsan kasi minamata natin yung sarili nating bayan eh. We should have that sense of pride na ganito pala kaganda ang Pilipinas. Ang dami pa nilang hindi napupuntahan. Like sa Ilo-Ilo nag-12 hour road trip ako. Road and sea nag-drive ako and it was such a beautiful experience. Parang Baguio dun. Mas maganda pa sa Baguio kung tutuusin kasi Baguio is congested now. Doon puro virgin pa halos yung land so I’m willing to go around the Philippines and talk to the youth and just spread God’s word and let them know that people can change no matter how bad your past is or how bad you are as a person. If you have this desire in your heart to change, nothing is impossible with Christ,” he added.
