Megastar Sharon Cuneta could not help but turn emotional as she opened up about her thoughts on being separated from her daughter Frankie Pangilinan for the first time.

Frankie, a budding musician and her firstborn daughter with Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, is about to start classes as a freshman in The New School, a private university in New York, where she has chosen to pursue college.

In a post she shared on Instagram on Thursday, the veteran actress-singer admitted to feeling separation anxiety at the idea of leaving her second child in such a big city, “all alone without her whole family, and her friends whom she has known and loved” since she was young.

KC flew home the other day. Dada, Miel and Miguel with our Yaya Carmen left yesterday. So it’s now just me, Yaya Hanzel and my Kakie who is sleeping with me in the hotel until I leave, even if she’s already settled in her dorm. I have been getting 2-1/2 to 3 hours of sleep at night since we got here two weeks ago, and now, clearly this is no longer jetlag (though that lasted a week for me!). It’s all the stress and pain of knowing that in a few more days, I will have to gather all my strength to be able to finally leave her here, in this big, beautiful city - all alone without her whole family, and her friends whom she has known and loved and been loved by since 7th grade. She has known nothing but love since the day she was born...and I worry too much about her. I am so crazy about all my children - but since Kakie’s second oldest and was born a “manang,” meaning she has always been more mature for her age, she has been for the past few years, my best friend. I miss her already. I cry every night, but I shouldn’t be selfish and just let her spread her wings and fly. I hope I can visit her often. Please pray for both Kakie and me. Thanks so much and God bless you all.

But despite her worries, Sharon has confidence in Frankie, or “Kakie,” as she would fondly call her, whom she described as “manang” or more mature for her age.

“She has known nothing but love since the day she was born, and I worry too much about her. Aside from Sharon, Frankie’s father Kiko has admitted that it would be difficult for him to let go of his daughter who is slowly turning into an independent lady. Meanwhile, her sister KC has exressed her “overflowing excitement” for her younger sibling as she enters a new chapter in life.
