Matteo Guidicelli talks about his role as a drug user celebrity in the film based on actual real-life events.
As part of Mina-Anud director Kerwin Go’s film debut, Matteo Guidicelli said he has been excited about the project ever since he became part of it last year. “This is direk Kerwin Go’s story, this is his dream come true. It’s been years in the making and I feel very, very proud to be part of it. He showed me a few snippets of a demo reel he shot for Mina-Anud. I’m so happy and so proud of him that it’s come to life. So far it’s very successful. It was the closing movie sa Cinemalaya and so far there’s been a lot of positive feedback about the film so I’m very, very proud of direk Kerwin. He’s a proud Cebuano and to represent Cebu this way,” he shared during the Mina-Anud Celebrity Premiere held last August 19 at the Greenhills Theater Mall.
In an offbeat role that has him playing a drug-using celebrity, Matteo said he was happy to take on an unexpected role. “It was fun. I remember the producer Bianca Balbuena called me and said, ‘Matteo, you have to do this. It’s very different.’ And direk called me also to tell me it’s really different. So I said okay. Kahit na it’s a small role. it’s still a fun role. It gave a little substance to the story so I’m proud of portraying it,” he explained.
Mina-Anud is named after an actual island in Samar where three tons of cocaine washed ashore and was discovered by the fishermen who hide some of the stash from the drug enforcement officers. Matteo shared the story is based on actual events. “These things really happen. This story is based on true stories. It happened late 1990s or 2000s yata. There’s still cases like these that happen. There was a case like this that happened a few weeks ago in an island and this is reality. So it’s very nice that direk brought it to life kumbaga,” he said.
