‘Mas riot 'to!’: Director Jun Lana on his new LGBTQ-themed movie, ‘The Panti Sisters’

Direk Jun Lana promised a "riot" comedy for his new new film, The Panti Sisters. Aside from being one of the entries of Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2019, Jun was proud of being able to put three Gawad Urian awardees as his lead actors in this movie.

"Sa posters pa lang nakikita niyo na magkakaiba ynug peg nila and interesting na kapag strikingly different ang characters sa isa't-isa lalo na kung comedy, mas riot

"Especially with the brilliant actors that we have, lahat sila mga Urian awardees, napaka-gagaling na mga artista kaya yung set namin magaan, masaya dahil buong buo ang mga characters," he said during the media conference yesterday, August 20.

Paolo Ballesteros and Christian Bables were Gawad Urian Best actor and Best Supporting actor awardees respectively in 2017, for their portrayals in Die Beautiful, a movie which Jun also directed and wrote. Recently, a nomination for Gawad Urian Best Actor was also given to Christian Bables for the movie Signal Rock. Meanwhile, Martin Del Rosarion had his Best Supporting Actor for Gawad Urian Award in 2015 for the movie Dagitab.

Jun also shared that people should not worry about the film's theme as being too sexy and edgy, because they produced it targeting the "family" audience.

"Comedy 'to e. Gusto namin siyempre cross section ng audiences ang makakanood. Maraming pasabog, maraming mga sexy scenes, pero hindi naman edgy na hindi na mapapanood ng pamilya kasi we're targeting the family to be able to watch the film," he told the press.

The Panti Sisters is also considered to be part of the "Beautiful Universe" as Jun Lana says it, as this followed his two previous LGBTQ-themed films, Die Beautiful and Born Beautiful.

Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2019 screenings will start on September 11 to 17. Other entries are Cuddle Weather, I'm Elenya L, LSS (Last Song Syndrome), G!, Open, Watch Me Kill, Circa, Lola Igna, and Pagbalik.
