This is not a drill: A fourth installment of the '90s classic 'The Matrix' is happening.

On its 20th anniversary, Warner Bros. Group chairman Toby Emmerich confirmed that a new film set in the world 'The Matrix' is underway. Original director Lana Wachowski will write and direct the movie solo -- still, with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss playing the roles of Neo and Trinity, respectively.

"We could not be more excited to be re-entering 'The Matrix' with Lana," said Emmerich in a statement Tuesday. "Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in 'The Matrix' universe."

Similar to the previous chapters, Warner Bros. Pictures will co-produce and globally distribute the film with Village Roadshow Pictures.

Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell are also on board the project to help Wachowski on the script. For her part, the filmmaker will also be producing alongside Grant Hill.

Warner Bros. has been eyeing to reload the franchise for a while now, but "a hold up over producing rights on who owned what slowed down the development", cited a report from news website Insider. Nevertheless, the studio saw a perfect opportunity to get back to 'The Matrix' universe with the success of Keanu's recent box office hits, such as 'John Wick 3' and 'Toy Story 4'.

Wachowski, who directed the previous chapters with her sister, Lilly, said of the film, "Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I'm very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends."

The three previous chapters -- 'The Matrix', The Matrix Reloaded' and 'The Matrix Revolution' -- comprise three of Hollywood's top grossing franchises of all time after collectively earning more than $1.6 billion at the global box office.

The fourth stallment is reportedly to begin production in early 2020.
