Alden Richards on doing ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye’: ‘This is one of the greatest decisions that I’ve made’

With his first Star Cinema project Hello, Love, Goodbye already hitting P66M at the box office on its second day of showing, Alden Richards admitted agreeing to cross over networks to do the film was one of the biggest breaks in his career. “Yes of course, this is one of the greatest decisions that I’ve made, projects that I’ve done and parang mas na-validate ko yung sarili ko bilang actor sa pelikulang ito. Actually may isang linya dun na sinabi ko kay Kath (Kathryn Bernardo) as Joy na, ‘I will always remember you as someone who believed that I can be more.’ Yun kasi yung paniniwala ni direk sa akin, that I can be more. When I was saying it to Joy and to direk Cathy as well.

The talented actor shared how nervous he was during their first shooting day. “Yes kasi yun yung first day ko sa pelikula so siyempre kabado. I really adjusted to her, kung saan siya mas comfortable. Sumunod lang ako sa instructions kasi siyempre I have to make Kath comfortable as well kasi siya yung babae. Marami rin siyang kino-consider especially when doing scenes. But we were able to deliver well sa scene na yun and nakakatawa naman siya. It’s really not about the scene eh kung ano yung nandun but yung message nung scene kung bakit nangyari yun. Dun kasi nagsimula lahat,” he recalled.

Working with one of the directors he has always admired was one of the reasons Alden felt pressured to perform well. Way back before lagi kong sinasabi yan at pina-plan. Kaya nung una una medyo marami takes,” he explained.

With all the positive feedback he has been getting from the film, Alden admits he cannot take all the credit for his performance as Ethan in Hello, Love, Goodbye. “It’s all because of direk Cathy, yun yung gusto ko sabihin talaga. Kasi bilang actor for nine years, meron ako kumbaga mga habits of an actor, meron na akong nakasanayan gawin. Kaya sabi ni direk before doing the film, forget everything you think you know kasi wala lahat yan, invalid lahat yan sa pelikulang ito. Tapos the famous line, ‘Huwag mo ako artehan.’ Kumbaga it’s all teamwork and malaki pagpapasalamat ko kay direk kasi sobrang naiba yung dating ng pag-arte ko dito sa pelikula and may nabasa akong review na nakita yun because of direk. It’s all because of direk Cathy. Binigyan ako ni direk ng bagong pangarap, to be able to do more movies like Hello, Love, Goodbye and tell more great stories through a film,” he explained.
