Julia Barretto’s older sister Dani Barretto says she has no regrets defending her sibling against maliciious rumors.
With her younger sister Julia Barretto involved in one of the hottest trending topics in showbiz recently, Dani Barretto revealed that their family have only gotten closer than ever in order to help her overcome the issue linking her to the Gerald Anderson and Bea Alonzo break up.
“Always naman whenever our family has issues, parang kahit isa yung natamaan, natatamaan talaga lahat kasi we’re a close-knit family. So hindi maiiwasan na hindi rin kami masasaktan. Everybody knows, actually it’s a known thing, that I’m a very protective sister. I will always fight whoever. Lalo na pag alam kong nasa tama yung kapatid ko, wala naman siyang nasa mali. But it has affected us in a way I guess na parang pag kasi nakikita mong nasasaktan ang isang tao, nasasaktan ka rin. Pero bilang nakakatanda, kailangan ikaw yung magpapakita ng strength sa kanya para meron siyang pinanghuhugutan ng strength,” she shared during the Cetaphil National Healthy Skin Mission event held in SM Makati last August 17.
Dani shared that she is proud of how her sister is showing just how mature and strong she is with all the accusations being hurled at her online.
“Matapang si Julia. Napakatang niya. She’s such a fighter. Parang to be honest, ang dami na niyang pinagdaanan, napakabata niya pa, pero sobrang 'pag nakikita mo siya parang ang galing niya. Not naman mag-mask ng emotions pero dalang dala niya yung sarili niya. Alam niya kung saan niya ilulugar yung nararamdaman niya. Hindi siya nagpapakita ng weakness sa harap namin. Kahit sa amin. There are times, of course naman kailangan. Kasi sa amin lang naman niya mapapakita yun eh. Pero lagi niyang sinasabi, ‘I can do this.’ Naniniwala naman kaming kaya niya. Kinakaya niya,” she explained.
After defending Julia online, Dani added she also had to bear the brunt of some of the bashing but is not bothered by the backlash.
“The funny things is, when you defend your sister you get bashed for it. Apparently in this country it’s not allowed (laughs). But it’s okay. I can take it. I don’t regret anything. Kahit pinagpiyestahan ako for a while online, I don’t regret doing it. Kapatid ko yun, ipagtatanggol ko yun hanggang kamatayan so it’s okay,” she admitted.
Dani also told PUSH why she did not give Julia any advice about her situation.
“The thing with Julia kasi is ang hirap niyang bigyan ng advice. Kasi alam niya yung ginagawa niya, She’s very mature for her age. I think it’s also because of the experiences she already overcame, lahat ng mga challenges na nangyayari sa kanya the past few years. But ang lagi lang niyang sinasabi, ‘Dito ka lang sa tabi ko, makinig ka lang.’ Lagi siyang ganun.
"So ako nakikinig lang ako sa kanya. Ang gusto lang naman niya kasama eh. 'Pag nasasaktan ka kasi, mas gusto mong may nakikinig sa 'yo kesa may nag-a-advice sa 'yo 'di ba? Kasi at that time gusto mo muna damdamin kung ano yung nararamdaman mo. So ang ginawa lang namin is we just stayed by her side. Hindi namin siya iniwanan. Now, everything is getting better. Everyone is moving forward,” she said.
