“I just hope we can all be reminded of love, of compassion and forgiveness,” says Cherry Pie Picache in the new ABS-CBN docu-film ‘Radical Love’
After two years in the making, finally the documentary film Radical Love is about to be released on ABS-CBN. The documentary features the story of the actress Cherry Pie Picache and her process of forgiving the killer of her late mother Zenaida Sison in 2014.
At the premiere screening last Wednesday, July 4, Cherry Pie shared that she was hesitant and scared at first about opening up about this very personal and tragic experience in her life.
"[Pero] ngayon, parang medyo na-relieve ako, getting all the reactions from people. Tapos nata-touch ako because, while we were promoting it sa social media, there were already several stories of several people who have been victims of violent crimes na nagsend ng message na now they're inspired, they will think about it—so that alone is worth it. So I really feel relieved and grateful, na ngayon there is a bigger platform," she explained to the press.
It was difficult for Cherry Pie to do the film, especially in times when she had to recount her memories with her mom, as well as looking into the pictures of the body of her lifeless mom.
"Making it for two years is very difficult. Sabi ko nga sa kanila its like raping me over and over again, kasi naaalala ko. The most difficult part was—never kong nakita yung mommy ko e, whatever state she was in. [Pero] d'on sa docu, I had no choice. It was the first time that I saw her in a picture na ganon," she said.
Zenaida Sison was killed by one of her houseboys, Michael Flores, who was under the influence of illegal drugs at the time. Michael is now in New Bilibid Prison since being sentenced to life imprisonment in 2014.
In Radical Love, Cherry Pie was followed as she visited Michael to personally forgive him, and even hand him some bread as a sign of peace.
"I just hope we can all be reminded of love, of compassion and forgiveness. I hope we can all be reminded of caring with other human beings and taking action. Kasi isa rin yun e. When all that was happening to my mom - you can see the orientation of our house, dami naming kapitbahay ‘di ba? Walang ni isang naki-alam. So I'm hoping na yung care natin for other human being, sa kapwa, it all [gets] awaken," she added.
Cherry Pie continued that her faith and forgiveness of Michael also proved her stand on the aspect of Anti-Death Penalty on violent crimes. "It's really a process. So sana yun ang makita ng mga tao na talagang proseso talaga sa tao diba? That's why Anti-Death (Penalty) ako, yung ganon. That they deserve a second chance. Because now, iba na yung disposition niya," she explained.
