Hello, Love, Goodbye, the long-awaited collaboration between Kapamilya Kathryn Bernardo and Kapuso Alden Richards, finally opens in theaters today. Here are some things you should look forward to in the movie.1. Deglamorized, beautiful, and convincing Kathryn Kathryn Bernardo as Joy is the epitome of what a Hong Kong OFW is like. Always busy, always multi-tasking and always moving fast. For most of the film, she is bare of makeup yet she’s breathtakingly beautiful. Also right from the start, we can relate and empathize with her character. This film showcases Kathryn’s substantial growth as an actress and we appreciate her in a new light as she makes us laugh at her “jologs” scenes.2. Funny and nakakakilig Alden If Joy is serious, almost angry right from the start, Alden Richards as Ethan makes us laugh from the get-go. Alden is convincing as a carefree and kilig lover boy whose life is suddenly upended when he meets Joy. Yet we are also caught in the moment whenever Alden’s character becomes serious.3. Fun supporting cast Maymay Entrata, Kakai Bautista, Lovely Abella, Joross Gamboa, and Jeffrey Tam are lovely, funny and effective additions to the film and to the story of Joy and Ethan. Even Jameson Blake played the role of the disappointed brother well. Also kudos to Lito Pimentel and Maricel Laxa who brought mastery of their craft to the film.4. Powerful direction Hello, Love, Goodbye is Hong Kong as it is in the film: busy, fast-paced, and a place for people just passing by. There is not one scene that is wasted. All scenes are essential, to the point, and beating to the rhythm of what a Hong Kong OFW’s life is like. Hello, Love, Goodbye is Joy and every other OFW in Hong Kong. 5. Beautiful cinematography It has captured the small, busy spaces of Hong Kong as well as the wide unseen spaces in it and showed it beautifully.
