EXCLUSIVE: Acting coach Bodjie Pascua gives advice for aspiring actors

It’s been a long wait but finally after four decades, veteran actor Bodjie Pascua gets his first lead role in the movie Pan de Salawal which opened in theaters last July 24. He plays the role of a retired breadmaker named Sal.

Aside from being a theater, film, and TV actor, Bodjie (most popularly known as “Kuya Bodjie” in the ‘90s children show Batibot), said he tries to pass on his love for acting to the younger generations of actors and admitted that is his secret to a long career. “It’s plain and simple, yung love ko for the work, my respect for the work that actors do. I also get to teach acting since the ‘90s sa PETA but not formally.

At 64 years old, the Pan de Salawal star shared an important aspect of acting that aspiring actors must work on. “Isang malaking frustration ko ngayon as a teacher ng acting eh parang the younger people eh medyo mas mahirap for them to connect. Siguro dahil sa kanilang gadgets. So kailangan yun yung una nilang matutunan, kung paano makipag-connect sa kapwa. At dun lalabas yung talent mo. Kung gusto mo mag-artista, araw-araw kakailanganin mo, dun kumikinang yung talino mo eh, in your generosity sa mga kasama mo. So two, be humble kasi hindi ikaw ang center of the universe. Feeling ko the bigger the star, the more generous they are kasi nga dun lumalabas yung galing nila pag nagbibigay sila.

Pan de Salawal stars stars Bodjie Pascua, Miel Espinoza, Anna Luna, and Soliman Cruz.
