“Who would’ve thought I’d be gifted another chance to represent another film, my 3rd, by THE MASTER LAV DIAZ? What an early present for my 30th,” she added.

For its sixth edition, the Crosscut Asia section “will focus on Southeast Asian genre films, from thrillers to romantic horrors, reflecting regional characteristics in the region,” including, aside from “Ang Hupa”, Prachya Pinkaew’s “Sisters” and Eric Khoo’s “Folklore: Tatami”.

Ang Hupa is a dystopian film imagining Southeast Asia in the year 2034 AD. “The region has been in the dark for the last three years, literally, because the sun hasn’t shone as a result of massive volcanic eruptions at the Celebes Sea in 2031,” quoted Lav as saying in a previous interview. “Madmen control countries, communities, enclaves and bubble cities. Cataclysmic epidemics razed over the continent. Millions have died and millions have left.”

It features Joel Lamanagan, Pinky Amador, and Hazel Orencio.
