As OPM band Imago renewed their ties with Universal Records, they also introduced a new vocalist after Mayumi Gomez left the group to settle down with her American husband.

In an exclusive interview with PUSH, Kiara San Luis opened up about how she made adjustments as she joined the band which is known for their hits “Sundo” and “Taralets.”

“At first, it was really hard for me. Nung napunta ako sa Imago nag-aaral pa ako. Pero my bandmates made it easier for me to adjust,” San Luis said.

Sharing what her life was before joining the band, she stated: “Before nag-start ako sa mga food park gigs. Hindi naman talaga siya raket na parang source of extra income, talagang hobby lang talaga siya. Nagkakatuwaan lang kami ng mga friends ko tapos kumakanta kami sa mga food park. Tapos sa events.”

Meanwhile, Zach Lucero, the band’s lead guitarist, revealed how the band discovered the young singer.

“We saw her online. We were going through another phase wherein our former sing found love in another country so she had to move forward. I saw her online, that’s the real story. And then I messaged her and she said sure and she gave some songs and ‘yun I passed it to the band. And then they liked her, too. And practice and ‘yun tuloy tuloy na,” he said.

Asked how it feels to be signed again with Universal Records, Lucero said: “I think UR would be our first label in a sense na we experienced a label with that kind of push back then. Yeah we’re excited.”

“It’s like coming home actually,” bass guitarist Myerene Academia added.

Lucero also noted that fans can expect one song per quarter this year which means fans can hear at least two songs in the months to come.

“We have a single already. Now, we’re sorting out our path - a couple of EPs, one album. I mean nothing’s set in stone yet. Whatever it is, it’s gonna be a lot of songs coming out throughout the year. We’re looking at maybe one sog per quarter, hopefully,” he said.
