Mariel Padilla paid respect to her brothers and sisters in Islam as she shared photos of her and daughter Isabella wearing a hijab in observance of Eid Mubarak on Wednesday.
Although loyal to her faith as a Catholic, the 'It's Showtime' host joined the celebration in support of her husband Robin Padilla's religion. This she revealed in a reply to a follower who questioned her use of the hijab shortly after the said photos were posted on Instagram.
“Alam nyo po ba kung ano ang ibig sabihin ng [pagsusuot] nyo ng hijab?," asked the netizen. "Or ginagawa nyo lang po itong isang costume para ipakita sa publiko?”
“I am not a Muslim. I am a Catholic. I was born a Catholic and I still am,” replied Mariel. “But I respect my husband’s religion therefore kasama niyo ako sa pag gugunita ng Eid Al Fitr kaya bumati kami ng anak ko ng Eid Mubarak sa lahat ng mga kapatid namin sa Islam (kasama ka doon).”
Moreover, as clearly indicated in the pictures, Mariel remarked that she and her daughter were captured inside a mosque, thus explaining the attire.
“Nasa loob kami ng mosque. ‘Diba ‘yan ang tamang kasuotan sa loob ng mosque? ‘Diba dapat naka hijab sa loob ng mosque?” she added.
Mariel tied the knot with Robin in a private ceremony in Taj Mahal in India in 2010. The couple, who are currently expecting an additional member to their growing family, had Isabella in November 2016.
