Lea Salonga has confirmed her return as coach in the upcoming fourth season of popular singing competition The Voice Kids.
The Broadway singer happily made the announcement in an interview with ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe recently.
“I guess it’s official!,” she said.
“The first announcement was Sarah Geronimo’s, and hers is like the one of the toughest ones to get. My schedule is tough but hers is even tougher,” she added.
Both Lea and Sarah are among the original judges of The Voice, along with OPM singer Bamboo Manalac. They were joined by Black Eyed Peas member Apl.de.ap during the first and second seasons. In 2016, Megastar Sharon Cuneta stepped in to replace the Popstar Royalty as coach in the third season of The Voice Kids.
Meanwhile, Lea addressed the comparisons between the original version of the Aladdin OST ‘A Whole New World,’ which she performed with Brad Kane, and that of Darren Espanto and Morisette’s (themselves a product of The Voice of the Philippines), stating, “I’m flattered.”
“Morissette may have patterned her own because the original version was just played so much. What I loved in particular was how much joy they had in singing that song, that it was infectious,” she added.
Moreover, the Tony award-winning actress confirmed that she’s now back on track after fully recovering from the leg injury she acquired during a ski accident in Japan last January.
“Yes, I’m walking unaided and I’m back to the gym to get my leg stronger,” she told.
Apart from The Voice Kids, Leah is gearing up for the Atlantis's production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, where she will take to the Broadway stage with Jett Pangan, starring as the titular character, to play as Mrs. Lovett.
She’s also looking forward to the theatrical run of musical film Yellow Rose, which she stars alongside Tony award nominee Eva Noblezada and veteran actress Princess Punsalan.
