EXCLUSIVE: Tommy Esguerra reveals why he took a break from showbiz: ‘I was getting very depressed’

Tommy Esguerra had just come back from the States when he revealed he had to fly out again in less than a week. The 25-year-old model said he is currently putting his showbiz career on hold. “So I’ve been on a break for like three or four months. I’m actually supposed to be in California right now. I only flew back for campaign shoots, two events, and then another shoot and then the MEGA ball. I’m flying back in a couple of days and then I’ll be there for another week and a half. And then I come back here. And then after two more weeks I’ll be flying there to Hawaii to be with my family again and then I’ll come back,” he shared during the Open to the New Shades event of the Tourism Authority of Thailand held in Makati city.The former <a href='https://entertainment.abs-cbn.com/tv/shows/pbbotso/main'>Pinoy Big Brother</a> housemate shareD that he has been doing a lot of soul-searching this year. “I really needed time away. You know like when you’re so focused on what you’re doing, you almost lose sight of why you are doing it or you lose sight of the perspective of how far you’ve made it, where you’re at in life. And I was getting very depressed. This is something I know people don’t talk about or my parents saying I shouldn’t say so much about what I’m going through. Whatever it’s true. It’s real life. I was going through a lot of stuff and I needed a break. My priorities were wrong. I was focusing so much on everything else but myself and what I wanted to do. I lost track of who I was. And when that happens, you’re trying your best but then nothing’s working to make you happy or to feel fulfilled. Nothing was working so because of that, even if I was happy in a relationship, that uneasy feeling is going to come out and is going to affect you, it’s going to affect your relationship. So I had to take a hard look at myself and it’s good,” he explained.During his recent trip back to his hometown, Tommy admitted that he actually considered not coming back to the Philippines. “It’s kind of hard not to think about it. Because I got away and I got to relax. It’s like when you’re on vacation and you’re thinking, ‘Can I just live here forever di ba?’ And I was with my family. I got that idea but I also was really excited to come back because I was able to fix myself and come back stronger,” he said.He was seen on the big screen as Kathryn Bernardo’s fiancé in Three Words To Forever last year and he still wants to pursue an acting career. “I want to do acting. I will do it. I wanted to take a break and I did. But I also realize that I’m being blessed with the opportunity that I have. I just have to be able to balance because I need my rocks, things to keep me grounded. So I’m going to do it. Once I come back for while, I’m going to go try for what I can and join any projects to keep myself active,” he added.

He was seen on the big screen as Kathryn Bernardo’s fiancé in Three Words To Forever last year and he still wants to pursue an acting career. “I want to do acting. I will do it. I wanted to take a break and I did. But I also realize that I’m being blessed with the opportunity that I have. I just have to be able to balance because I need my rocks, things to keep me grounded.
