Tony-winning actress Lea Salonga took to Twitter to share her thoughts over the recent hullabaloo facing Darna following Liza Soberano's decision to withdraw from the highly-anticipated superheroine big screen remake.

According to The Voice PH coach, she wants to see a morena or a fair-skinned actress to highlight the true Pinay beauty.

"So, what would I love to see as Darna? Someone morena or kayumanggi to represent the darker skinned Pinays to let them know they are powerful and beautiful exactly as they are," she wrote.

Lea then went on, saying she is also hoping for the actress who will take on the role to be someone 'relative unknown' or a star who has a huge cult following but isn't merely a celebrity who could attract audiences based on the power of her name.

"I’d also love for her to be a relative unknown. Let the story sell the film. That is all," she added.

Last night, April 4, ABS-CBN Corporate Communications a made it clear that Star Cinema is now on the lookout for the star who will play Darna.

Several names came up to the list as netizens clamored for Maja Salvador, Nadine Lustre, and Pia Wurtzbach, among others to take on the role.

Liza decided to step out of Darna after she fractured her right index finger while filming the now-defunct Kapamilya fantaserye Bagani.

This is not the first time Darna experienced a major production setback as Angel Locsin also backed out of the project five years ago after undergoing a spine procedure. Meanwhile, director Erik Matti left the project due to "creative differences."

Jerrold Tarog, on the other hand, confirmed on Twitter that he will still helm the Star Cinema project after getting teased about leaving the project next.

"Hindi naman. Busy pa din kami. They informed me about Liza's decision weeks ago. I was quite sad about it, but her health is more important. Abangan niyo na lang kung sino ang bagong #Darna," he wrote.
