Even if her latest Regal Films project Stranded shares the same April 10 release date as the film Last Fool’s Show which stars her ex-flame JM De Guzman, Jessy Mendiola said she does not see them as competition and hopes audiences will watch both local films. “Kung puwede niyo panuorin yung parehas bakit naman hindi? Basta mas maganda yung sunud-sunod na maglabas ng mga pelikulang Pinoy kasi siyempre medyo naghihikahos na ang ating movie industry. So sana, as much as possible, kung makakalabas tayo ng maraming pelikulang Pinoy bakit hindi? At siyempre kung maglalabas kami, sana mas madami rin ang sumuporta sa lahat ng pelikula. Okay lang kung magkasabay,” she shared during the Stranded presscon held last March 26.
Jessy admitted that their original playdate was actually set later this year. “Actually nagulat kami na magsasabay kami kasi nung una hindi talaga dapat kami April 10 but then I guess sila Mother Lily decided to show it earlier para maging summer film siya. Magkaiba naman kami ng kuwento eh. I saw their trailer and siguro naman kung napanuod niyo yung trailer namin sobrang magkaiba,” she said.
The Stranded star said their two films have different approaches to the rom-com genre which will appeal to different audiences. “Magkaiba ng atake, ng kuwento. Ours is more of like inspiring story about how two lives are changed by each other. Sa kanila naman I think is about exes, about imagination and everything,” she explained.
When asked if she would be willing to work with JM on a project in the future, Jessy said her doors are always open. “Ako willing ako pero siya ata hindi. Baka hindi pa siya ready (laughs). Nag-a-assume lang ako ha, huwag niyo ako masyado seryosohin. Ako okay lang sa akin basta trabaho. Nagkita lang yata kami parang two months ago sa ASAP. Baka hindi lang nagkakataon. I don’t call the shots. So sa management yun or sa kung may gusto man kumuha sa amin together, nasa kanila yun. Pero wala pa naman pagkakataon na kinukuha kami sa isang project so wala. I guess it’s not meant to be,” she said.
