The Miss Universe 2018 competition made history after it opened its doors to a transgender woman with the inclusion of Miss Spain Angela Ponce in the competition last year. Vice Ganda brought up the topic during his interview with Catriona Gray at her homecoming event at the Big Dome last February 24.
The comedian asked Catriona if she would be open to the idea of having a transgender woman in Bb. Pilipinas, the local competition which paved the way for her to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.
In response, Catriona said, "Of course for Binibini it is the sole discretion of Madam [Stella Araneta], but for my point of view I see nothing wrong with it because again that's what we stand for. We are moving to a more inclusive and more respectful competition in the world of pageantry, so why not open it up in that way? Mas masaya din feeling ko."
With the overwhelming support she received from the LGBTQ community during the pageant, Catriona has extended her gratitude to them during her homecoming interview.
"Thank you for showing the Philippines as a shining beacon across the world how we could love the LGBTQ community, how we are beginning to accept and not just tolerate the community, and [that] we are opening our arms to everyone and I hope that other countries will see that and want to replicate it too," she stated.
Catriona's homecoming event titled "Raise Your Flag for Catriona" will air this Sunday, March 3, on ABS-CBN's Sunday's Best.
