The ‘Matanglawin’ host said that he used to spend most of his hours in the gym “pumping iron” as he was passionate about the sport then.
Prior to being the ‘Trivia King’ that fans know him for today, TV host and athlete Kim Atienza, better recognized as Kuya Kim, used to dream of being a pro body builder much like his idols, powerlifters Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno.
Sharing a throwback photo of himself as a contender for Super Body of the Philippines — a body building competition in the late 80s — on Instagram last Friday, the ‘Matanglawin’ presenter said that he used to spend most of his hours in the gym “pumping iron” as he was passionate about the sport then.
“The norm then was to be as massive as possible kahit na mukha akong palaka,” said Kim in jest.
But while he ended up treading a much different path — he got into politics then radio before jumping to television — Kim has throughout the years managed to commit to the same active and healthy lifestyle. He is a known triathlete — having finished several marathons, including the prestigious IRONMAN Triathlon, even after he suffered a mild stroke in 2010 and was diagnosed by Guillain-Barre syndrome, a “rare but serious autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks healthy nerve cells in your peripheral nervous system,” according to Health Line.
