In an interview with TV Patrol, the TV host and comedian reveals why.
TV host and comedian Vice Ganda on Tuesday revealed that he was personally requested by Idol Philippines’ global franchise owner, Fremantle, to be part of the show.
Vice will join Regine Velasquez, James Reid, and Moira dela Torre as the judging panel of the reality talent competition, which is set to air later this year
Talking to ABS-CBN reporter Mario Dumaual, the Unkabogable Star said that his previous stints as judge in Pinoy Boy Band Superstar and Pilipinas Got Talent, of which he finished two seasons, were a huge factor in Fremantle’s decision to have him join Idol Philippines.
“Natutuwa ako na natatawa kasi lagi akong personal pick ng franchise. Kasi ‘pag nanonood ‘yung franchise kung sino ‘yung mga possible judges, ‘pag nakikita ‘yung ibang shows kung paano ako nag-judge, laging ako ‘yung ginagawa nilang example. Nakakatuwa naman na nagugustuhan nila kung paano ako mag-judge,” he said.
Initially, there was hesitation on his end, as Vice knew that he was not perceived by many as a singer. But the producers talked him through, citing that he could be just as effective as British personality Simon Cowell, who was a judge in hit talent search American Idol, despite his lack of flair for music.
On the possible backlash from viewers, Vice recalled an advice he gave to first-time judge Moira: “Kahit ano’ng sabihin natin, maaaring magustuhan nila o hindi, so might as well judge from our hearts. Kung ano ‘yung sinasabi ng puso natin, iyon na ang sabihin natin, huwag na tayo mang-echos,” he said.
