After news came out that Diego Loyzaga allegedly attempted suicide last November, Marco Gumabao said he has not heard from his former Los Bastardos co-star. “Now wala po (communication). Napag-usapan siya before sa taping but like I said before, wherever he is now or whatever is happening kay Diego, I just want him to know na nandito kami, yung mga kapatid niya sa Los Bastardos, na we’re here to support him and give him the love that he needs. If kailangan niya kami we’re just here, we’re just a text away. I’ve been friends with Diego for like the longest time. I know na he’s going through a tough time now,” he shared.

Marco said he and Diego grew close while starting out in showbiz almost at the same time. “Kaibigan ko talaga si Diego even before. Si Diego barkarda ko yan dating dati pa. Dati ko pang kaibigan yan. Sabay kaming nag-start. And para ko na rin siyang kapatid, kami nila Daniel (Padilla), mga ka-close talaga namin si Diego so I’m just here for him if he needs me, if he wants to reach out sa akin. I’m here to listen. Sabay kami nag-wo-workshops, sabay kami nag-o-audition for roles, so I can say na isa si Diego sa naging ka-close ko sa showbiz rin. Siyempre when that happened to him nakakalungkot but also I want to give him space. Ayoko naman yung maging kaibigan na, ‘Uy, ano na nangyari sa ‘yo?’ Baka magmukhang tsismoso pa ako or what ‘di ba? I don’t want that to happen. I just want him to know that I’m here for him and na-miss namin siya,” he explained.

The Los Bastardos actor said they had no idea Diego was going through a tough time last year. “Wala eh. Hindi mo kasi mapapansin sa isang tao yun pag depressed siya. Ako wala, hindi ko napansin. We just want to respect yung wishes ng family nila, if they want na ilayo muna siya sa showbiz, okay lang. We can’t blame them kasi minsan kailangan mo rin ilayo yung sariili mo sa mga bagay na minsan hindi okay sayo. So if this I his way of coping or of healing himself, then so be it. I really hope na sana okay na talaga si Diego and sana makasama naming siya ulit soon,” he said.

After Diego’s character was abruptly killed off in their series, Marco said everyone did not anticipate what had happened to him. “Siyempre nagulat talaga kami. I didn’t expect it to happen. Knowing Diego, he has that strong character, yung hindi mo makikita sa kanyang na meron pala siyang bahid ng depression. So nung nalaman ko yun sobrang gulat na gulat ako. Nalaman ko yun 2 am and ako ang nagsabi kina Jake (Cuenca) at sa ibang mag kapatid namin. So lahat sila gulat. Lahat kami nag-panic. We didn’t know what happened. Ang alam lang namin nung una, hindi lang siya mag-te-taping. Nagkagulo siyempre oo. When that happened, we were all in shock. Tapos sakto yung story it was centered on him. So it was our big blow, not only for us but for the whole production, the whole show. Pero buti na lang ang gagaling ng mga writers naming and they turned things around and we’re back on track. So I’m thankful for that and now na si Joseph Marco pumasok sa show namin, sana mas mapalakas pa naming yung story and mas mapaganda naming yung story para mas magustuhan ng mga tao. For the next three weeks, araw-araw kami mag-te-taping,” he explained.
