EXCLUSIVE: Why it took two years to produce Jodi Sta. Maria’s horror film ‘Second Coming’

Director Jet Leyco, who has helmed a couple of independent films in the past including the Cinema One Originals 2013 entry Bukas Na Lang Sapagkat Gabi Na and the QCinema 2015 film Matangtubig, among others, was all praises for Kapamilya actress Jodi Sta. Maria for her role as a stepmom in the upcoming Reality Entertainment film Second Coming.“Para sa akin, si Jodi perfect siya. Hindi lang dahil magaling siya kundi ‘yung image niya na ‘pag nakita mo siya sa screen kakapitan mo siya eh. And siya pa ‘yung main. T’saka magaling siya mag-improv. Siya alam niya na ‘yung character niya, kung ito man direksyon ko sa next take she’ll do parang another version na mas ‘ah ang ganda nun ah ‘yung ang gagamitin kong take ang ganda ng atake niya dun’ and nag-iimprov siya kahit sa lines,” Jet said in an exclusive interview with PUSH. Then again, it was a challenge for him along with the rest of the production team to finish the film within a specific period of time as they had to consider the schedule of their actors.“’Yung two years na ‘yun of course sa production ‘di natin maiiwasan na siyempre ‘yung schedule - they are big stars. ’Di natin maiiwasan, Marvin and Jodi. And of course, they’re doing a lot of projetcs too, right? So ‘yung span ng a year napunta dun. And siyempre editing and all,” he explained. But according to Jet, it allowed him to do some revisions including additional shoots and storyline changes, which benefited them in the end. “Ang maganda rito, while in the process, nagkaroon ako ng additional shoot ‘cause I think there’s more pa ‘yung story na pwede i-explore,” the 32-year-old director said. “Naninibago ako kasi sanay ako na half a year lang ‘yung film. Nasanay ako sa Cinema One or sa QCinema. Ito may budget to really make it sabihin natin hindi lang para ma-improve ‘yung story, lahat ng elements. Pati ‘yung pagka-grade namin and the visual effects,” he added. Admitting it was a challenging for him in all sorts, he said, “Challenge siya because may pinanggalingan ka na emotions dun sa dati. So siyempre kailangan mo ulit panoorin ‘yung mga na-shoot na para continuous pa rin ‘yung emotional narrative na ito pinanggalingan niya. Siyempre actors mo nag-iiba rin physical features along - siyempre two years pwedeng tumaba, pumayat,” he stated.
