Aga Muhlach also shares that he has been keeping in touch with the original Korean actor of ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7.’
Seasoned actor Aga Muhlach is overjoyed by the positive feedback that the trailer of his upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival entry Miracle in Cell No. 7 has been receiving.
At the movie’s grand press conference last Friday, December 6, Aga said, “At 50 years old, for me to still be able to experience this right now is a miracle. Seriously.”
Recounting the times he was in and out of showbiz, Aga expressed the joy he felt when he was told of the staggering number of views that their trailer keeps getting on social media. “’We have two million views, we have seven million views, we have 15 million views, we have 20 million views.’ I’m like, what the hell? Anong nangyayari, di ba? People are just raving about the movie,” he said. “It’s an excitement that I have in me right now… Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat.”
Meanwhile, Aga revealed that he has been keeping in touch with Ryu Seung-ryong, the Korean actor who originally played his movie character in the Korean version of Miracle in Cell No. 7.
“He commented, eh. And as a matter of fact, we texted each other. I texted him. Seriously, we’re kind of in constant communication now. As a matter of fact, we’re inviting him for the premiere. And it’s just that [we have to see] the schedules. Kasi he’s busy also now but sinabi niya sa’kin, ‘it’s really an honor to be invited to your premiere… and I can’t wait to see your movie.’”
According to Aga, for the past 12 years, he and his family have been spending Christmas and New Year abroad, so it will be like a first time again, after a long time, that they will be in the country for the holidays. This time, Aga will be out to promote his new MMFF entry, a dream he is excited to fulfil.
“So ang pangarap ko kung bakit makasama [sa MMFF]? Kasi gusto ko makasama ‘yung mga pinagkakaguluhan na mga artista ngayon like sina Vice [Ganda], sina Coco [Martin], sina Vic Sotto, kasi di ba pinag-uusapan pa natin, sabi ko masarap siguro silang makasama, parang gano’n. So parang ‘yun ang pinapangarap ko na sana magkaroon ako ng pelikulang gano’n.”
He also acknowledged his wife, former beauty queen and actress Charlene Gonzalez, for supporting him in his goals and passion.
“My wife naman is always the supportive wife. Ang sa kanya, she knows my passion sa paggawa ng pelikula, not just passion as an actor, but sa pagmamahal sa paggawa ng pelikula. Mahilig talaga ako, gustong-gusto ko ang pelikula talaga, and the fact na nakita niya na ‘yung pangarap kong mag-festival, biglang nangyari lahat; siya nagsabi na this is a curveball. Who never knew that you would be doing Miracle and this would be included in the Metro Manila Film Festival,” he said, adding that he really wants to experience it.
This is not the first time that Aga became part of the annual film fest. In fact, he even won best actor awards in past MMFFs. Aga won best actor in the 1992 film Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal and for the 1993 movie May Minamahal.
Aside from Aga, Viva Films’ Miracle in Cell No. 7 also stars Xia Vigor, Bela Padilla, John Arcilla, Joel Torre, JC Santos, Mon Confiado, Jojit Lorenzo, and Soliman Cruz. Directed by Nuel Crisostomo Naval, the movie opens in December 25 in cinemas nationwide.
