‘Curious’ Aiko Melendez on Barretto sisters feud: ‘Sinubaybayan ko talaga’

“At the end of the day, no matter how big the problem would be, ‘pag Kapamilya, sana mag-ayos someday.”

This was actress Aiko Melendez’s wish for the Barretto sisters amid the ongoing spat between Gretchen, Marjorie, and Claudine.

The Wildflower star, who is close friends with all three of them, said she prefers not to side with anyone as she admitted that she doesn’t know the real reason behind the feud.

“May ibang klaseng relationship na meron ako sa bawat isa eh. So wala akong bad na masasabi about Gretchen, bad about Marjorie, or Claudine kasi iba naman ‘yung relationship ko sa kanila. And I am not in the position to say anything kasi hindi ko naman talaga alam kung ano ang pinag-awayan nila,” she said on the sidelines of a press conference for the new film Damaso.

Melendez, who was involved in a film fest scandal with Ruffa Gutierrez which rocked showbiz in 1994, says the latter has become her kumare since then.

“Tsaka okay na kami ni Ruffa. Kumare ko si Ruffa. That’s why sabi ko nga at the end of the day, sana lahat nung involved magkaayos-ayos,” she said.

Meanwhile, Melendez admitted that she closely monitored the Barretto saga unfold on TV and social media because she got curious about the turn of events.

“Oo. Actually sinusabaybayan ko nga eh. Di ba? Kasi interesting. At tsaka quite amused kasi siyempre ‘pag ‘yung mga kilala mong tao involved na hindi mo naman pala alam ‘yung talagang ugat ng ano … you get curious ‘di ba? Real-life drama ‘di ba,” she stated.

Asked to give a message to them, she said: “Sana you find in your hearts to forgive one another. I know masyadong malalim ‘yung away nila. Pero with prayers ‘di ba, nothing is impossible. Dun pa rin ako sa positive side. Ako naniniwala ako na isang bagay na kasamaan ‘pag i-eend mo ng kabutihan mas magiging masaya ang karamihan.”

Meanwhile, Aiko Melendez, set to star in the upcoming film Damaso. The diverse cast and director Joven Tan’s modern take on the historical story are some of the things to look forward to once it hits the big screen.

“‘Yung cast namin pinagsama-sama mga singers, artista na ganun kalalaki sa isang pelikula is something to watch out for. Plus, alam naming maraming beses na silang nakapanood ng Padre Damaso sa mga plays. Ito, iba ang ginawang atake ni Direk Joven Tan,” she said.

Damaso hits cinemas on November 20.
