Metamorphosis, one of the eight official entries to this year's Cinema One Originals film festival, was reclassified from rated X to R16 by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) without cuts, director Jose Enrique said Thursday.
"Nagtagumpay tayong palayain ang paruparo! From X rating to R-16 (16yo above are allowed to watch the film)! And we promise you that NOTHING has been compromised– no shots or scenes have been cut,” Jose Enrique said on Twitter.
"Maraming salamat sa lahat ng nag-ingay at narinig nila tayo!" he added.
In an interview with Inquirer.net, MTRCB chair Rachel Arenas said that the first set of board members who have reviewed the film found it not suitable for public exhibition due to "prolonged exposure of the private parts" and a long scene that involves "masturbation."
“According to those that reviewed ['Metamorphosis' for a second time], it was tastefully done and parang there was a part that has to be shown talaga at the end of the movie because the movie’s all about that,” she said.
“I was happy naman, every time kasi they review, we have to review it as a whole picture, not just a part. Hindi porket they saw a genital ganito ganyan, they would base their classification on that part alone e. Kailangan ‘yung buong storya yung nirereview niya,” she added.
Starring indie actor Gold Azeron, Metamorphosis is a coming-of-age story about Adam, a 14-year-old who was born with a secret of having both male and female genitals.
Joining the cast members are Iana Bernardez, Yayo Martinez, Ivan Padilla, and Ricky Davao.
Metamorphosis will be competing with other entries such as Yours Truly Shirley, Lucid, O, Sila Sila, Tayo Muna Habang Hindi Pa Tayo, Tia Madre, and Utopia.
