More than a month after the successful Miss Grand International pageant, Samantha Ashley Lo took to social media to officially “sign off” as Miss Grand Philippines 2019.
Sharing photos of her on Instagram on Wednesday, the 26-year-old Cebuana, who failed in her bid to win the crown, wrote: "She took off her crown, thanked it for everything. Left...so she could live. Miss Grand Philippines 2019 officially signing off. Maraming Salamat Pilipinas. Now I'm off to my new path."
Her post came after ABS-CBN News reported that she had prematurely ended her reign as Binibining Pilipinas Grand International 2019 by handing her resignation letter to Binibining Pilipinas Charities Incorporated (BPCI), citing that she needs to pursue another direction in life.
BPCI has accepted Lo’s resignation, effective November 27.
Samantha's participation in the pageant was beset with controversy after she was reportedly detained in Paris due to issues with her passport, before she finally arrived in Venezuela to compete.
Samantha and Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc (BPCI) have since issued official statements on the matter, with the BPCI belying the beauty queen's statement that she did not receive assistance from her local organizer when she was detained in Paris.
