JC Santos, who marks his return to his theater roots in the highly-anticipated Filipino ethno-epic musical Lam-Ang, revealed that his relationship with his non-showbiz girlfriend has since leveled up.
During the presscon for the Tanghalang Pilipino-produced musical, the Kapamilya actor revealed that he had to learn how to speak Ilocano for the show.
Asked what makes the show different from what most Filipinos learned about Lam-Ang from school growing up, he said, “Dahil sa adaptation namin, pinakita namin ‘yung human parts ni Lam-Ang. Kasi ang alam lang natin mystical being siya—na nakakapag-usap siya ng mga hayop, nakakalipad siya, or malakas siya. So ngayon ipapakita namin sa play ‘yung side niya na tao siya.”
He went on: “Tsaka ‘yung human side ng community—kung paano sila mag-react noong mga panahong iyon. Na kapag umuulan lang, may pangitain na-nakabase lahat sa nature.”
Set to play the titular role in the re-imagined stage adaptation of the musical, Santos shared some of his other preparations for the show.
“‘Yung preparations nangyari na siya sa rehearsals. Kailangan malakas ang stamina. Kailangan ulit ng boses pang-theater. Ibang skill kasi siya, ibang disiplina. Acting with your body. Kailangan maka-perform ka sa audience sa likod,” he said.
Santos also promised a show filled with dance numbers as well.
“More on action-musical siya eh. It’s a dance musical. Sasayaw, mag-fa-fight scenes,” he said.
Fans can also expect kissing scenes between him and stage actress Anna Luna who plays his love interest in the musical.
“Siyempre. Kailangan siyang mangyari kasi crucial part siya na mangyari,” he shared.
Meanwhile, Santos opened up about his relationship with his non-showbiz girlfriend which he admitted has already gone to the next level.
“Level up na siyempre. Nasa happy side kasi we’re getting to know each other,” he shared.
Asked if he is now ready to settle down, he answered: “Gusto ko na madaliin siyempre. We’re enjoying each other’s company. Dun muna.”
In an interview on Magandang Buhay back in September, Santos revealed that his new girlfriend used to be his schoolmate in high school.
Lam-Ang is set to run from December 6 to 15 at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
