Not a stranger to doing scary movies, Iza Calzado admitted she has had her share of scary encounters on and off camera. “I’m a scaredy cat so I can get easily afraid. I remember when we did Sigaw it was quite a creepy place, a building sa Escolta which unfortunately they tore down already. It was such a beautiful building but it was abandoned already by that time. Di ba when you go to places and you just kind of feel the energy,” she explained.
While filming her Metro Manila Film Festival entry earlier this year, Iza said something unexplainable happened on the set when she was filming with fellow cast member Suzette Ranillo inside an old town church. “Nung nag-fi-filming kami sa Culion, Palawan, meron kaming eksena dun ni Tita Suzette na nag-uusap kami and habang nag-uusap kami we were blowing out all the lamps in the dorm. And as we’re blowing out the lamps, ayaw mamatay matay nung lamps or bigla na lang namamatay. Basta weird. Hanggang sa pinalitan na lahat ng lampara, tapos kami iniisip na namin, ‘C’mon hindi na ito normal,’” she recalled.
Iza said the situation was quickly remedied by prayers. “So sabi ko, ‘Oy, baka naman may mga spirits dito, nagdasal ba tayo this morning bago tayo pumasok dito? Nanghingi ba tayo ng pasintabi?’ So I had sage with me and then I asked for my girl to get the sage and we also prayed. Parang humingi lang kami ng pasintabi. Nagdasal kami and we said that we have good intentions for this film to tell your story. Afterwards, we were able to get the shot,” she shared.
