Fil-British football player Phil Younghusband formally announced on his Instagram account that he was retiring from playing last November 18. Phil was known as the top scorer for the Azkals, the Philippine National Football Team, whom he played with for more than a decade along with his older brother James. Phil’s last tournament with the team was the Asian Cup held in Korea earlier this year.
The 32-year-old athlete who got married earlier this year also hinted at a new venture in his post.
“Hanging up my boots! Thank you to my bosses, my coaches, team mates, competitors and all the supporters who have been part of my journey. See you all soon in a new adventure.”
Our Asian Cup campaign starts tomorrow against South Korea. It’s definitely going to be a tough game against one of the tournament favourites. But we will do what we always do when we step on the field, we will give our all from the first whistle to the final whistle. Hoping to see as many of our Kababayans in the stadium tomorrow here in Dubai. We will need you to spur us on and give us that added boost to get a good result from the game. Maraming maraming salamat! ⚽️🇵🇭 #football #soccer #asia #philippines #southkorea #asiancup2019 #azkals #dubai #uae 📸 credit: @romegrfx
