After making the cut to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival lineup, Culion officially revealed its official movie poster which received a “G” rating for public display by the MTRCB last November 18, Monday. The movie’s initial teaser poster released last month featured the “Kalachuchi” flower which is considered the official flower in province of Culion as well as playing a significant part in the film.
The film’s official poster prominently features the movie’s three lead actresses Iza Calzado, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, and Meryll Soriano. According to Culion producer Shandii Bacolod, “Iza plays Ana, she is Culion. She embodies how it is to be a woman, a wife, a mother, a friend and a member of a community in Culion during the 1900s. Naniniwala siya na hindi dapat siya ma-attach sa Culion kasi darating [ang] araw na makakaalis siya. Jasmine plays Doris. Si Doris naman naniniwala na ang mga Amerikano ang tutulong sa kanila sa Culion. Feeling niya darating ang isang diwata para pagalingin sila lahat. Isa siyang teacher. Meryll plays Ditas, dating dancer at teacher. Siya ang may pinakamalubhang sakit sa tatlo. Pakiramdam niya mamamatay na siya anytime soon kaya inuunuhan nya by committing suicide. During our shooting, wala akong naging problema sa kanila. Very smooth and professional,” she shared.
With the film directed by Alvin Yapan and shot entirely in the island of Culion in Palawan, Shandii said she hopes their story can reach a wide audience. “I am very excited. Super happy to comeback sa MMFF. Palagi ko sinasabi na ang edge namin ay Culion is a story that has never been told especially commercially. Bago ito. And naniniwala ako, from time to time, maganda na maghain tayo ng bagong recipe sa mga audience. Hindi pa ito nakukwento at sa totoo lang baka nga 10 out 10 persons, hindi alam ang kwento ng Culion. People should watch it because it is OUR story. Kwento ito ng mga Pinoy. Kwento ito ng bansa natin,” she explained.
