Lead actress Bela Padilla beamed with joy as she shared how much she appreciates the Japanese people's interest in her new action movie titled ‘Mañanita.

I'm very humbled kasi sobrang nagustuhan po nila 'yung pelikula, over and over," Bela began, sharing that one of the organizers kept coming to them to say how much they liked the movie, hence, bringing it to the prestigious Tokyo Film Fest.

"Even the audience, actually. Kahit after the film, they would come up to you to say how much they were affected by the movie, which I think nag-resonate talaga sa Japanese audience 'yung story ni Edilberta [her character] kasi she's very isolated. Lagi po siyang mag-isa. Lagi po siyang walang kausap, eh di ba, parang I think the Japanese culture also is very much like that. They're really individuals, so ang ganda po ng mga tanong nila sa'min 'nung Q & A 'nung press con. Talagang naintindihan po nila at ninamnam po talaga nila 'yung pelikula.

"Personally, I want to say 'thank you' to everybody who assisted us sa Tokyo International Film Fest kasi ang dali po 'nung naging stay namin 'dun," the actress added.

Bela, in the movie, plays the character of sniper-shooter Edilberta who was honorably discharged from the military and after which, was tasked with a different job.

When asked how she prepared for her role, Bela said, "I trained with actual soldiers in Camp Crame before we started shooting. Weeks before magshooting po, nagtraining po ako ng kung paano gumamit ng iba't ibang klase ng weapons, not just the rifle but pati galaw, pa'no maglakad, lahat po 'yun." She said that she also needed to wear prosthetics.

Meanwhile, Bela also gushed over the movie's writer, the highly-acclaimed Lav Diaz.

"Na-meet ko po si Lav Diaz three years ago sa Tokyo International Film Fest din. And my first impression is sobrang rock star niya kasi lahat ng tao, gustong makipag-usap sa kanya," she said, adding that she felt so proud to be Pinoy. Bela also said that through the movie, she felt like she has gotten to know Lav, and hopes to one day, get to know him more as a person.

Directed by Paul Soriano, written by Lav Diaz and produced by Ten17P and Viva Films, Mañanita opens on December 4 in cinemas nationwide.
