Korean actor Park Seo Joon opens up about his popularity in the Philippines and what he thinks about being compared to Hollywood star Ryan Gossling.
Korean actor Park Seo Joon revealed during his press conference for fashion brand Bench, that he had no idea of how popular he was in the Philippines.
"Through social media I was aware I had fans in the Philippines but I had no idea how much of a following I really had. It was when I was asked to be a global trendsetter, 'oh you're asking me to be an endorser there?' then I must have a following in the Philippines," he shared through interpreter and host Sam Oh.
When asked if he knows he is being called Asia's Ryan Gosling, Seo Joon said he is a fan of the Hollywood actor and is flattered by being called such.
"I am actually a fan of Ryan Gosling, I enjoy his work and I'm very flattered that people compare me to him but I hope in the future I will not be dubbed as Asia's anything, I would like to be known as the person that I am so I will work hard on projects so I can put more of myself out there. But I am honored that you would compare me to Ryan Gosling," he said.
Popular for his roles in the dramas What's Wrong With Secretary Kim, She's Pretty, Hwarang and Fight For My Way, Seo Joon also revealed that there's a little something of him in all of his characters.
"All the characters that I portray there's a little bit of me. But that doesn't mean that the characters are me. But it is because there are little bits of me in these characters, I can exaggerate that when I portray this character. It's not one character, they are all me, but they are also not me," the Hallyu wave star explained.
He also shared that the role that challenged him the most was Ko Dong Man in Fight For My Way.
"It was the show Fight For My Way, where I portrayed a MMA fighter. It was not much of the acting part as the challenge but it's the physicality that was involved. There was a lot of training to do, preparation physically, so that was really challenging," he remarked.
As for venturing into Hollywood, Seo Joon has this to say: "I have no concrete plans, I am not also that fluent in English yet, but I am aware that media is developing in a lightning pace. This is something that I am thinking about and I am aware that there is certain content, programming that is popular at certain times and a timing element that is involved as well. This are all thing that I am considering and thinking about. No concrete plans but definitely something in my mind."
Seo Joon successfully finished his first ever Philippine fan meeting at the Mall of Asia Arena last Sunday, September 29.
