Whenever Lea Salonga headlines a musical show, people immediately assume that it’s ‘wholesome’ just like her Disney princess image since she was the singing voice to Mulan and Princess Jasmine. However, the Broadway star reminded parents to do more research before purchasing tickets for her latest musical Sweeney Todd since it’s too far from her usual wholesome image.
Lea has posted a reminded over the weekend saying “Don’t assume that just because my name is attached that it’s going to be a family-friendly afternoon/evening.”
This merited a repost since I was just asked if a 6-year-old could come watch Sweeney Todd. First... ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Not to this show. And second, that child won’t even be allowed inside the theater. Please... please... pleeeeeeeease I implore you to do your research. The themes in Sweeney Todd are very adult: rape, cannibalism, revenge, murder, obsession. This is not a Disney show at all. Although the minimum age is 12, that would depend on the maturity level of your child. My 13-year-old flat out refuses to watch this as she has a hyper-vivid imagination. Thank you. #SweeneyToddMNL #AtlantisTWENTY
