The United Nations Environment Programme on Saturday named Antoinette Taus as the latest addition to its roster of national goodwill ambassadors around the world for her contribution and longstanding commitment to the planet.
The 39-year-old actress received the recognition at a ceremony held in Manila last Thursday.
The UN Environment Programme highlighted Antoinette's efforts as CEO and founder of CORA, a non-profit organization to help foster action for sustainable development through volunteerism, and The Sustainable Planet, a social enterprise centered on improving the lives of indigenous peoples and those living in poverty in the Philippines.
"Thank you [UN Environment Programme] for this incredible honor and for the opportunity to join you on this urgent and important mission for people and our one and only planet," said Antoinette of the honor.
“Antoinette is as passionate a voice for the environment as they come. We are extremely pleased she will be helping us raise the profile of the range of environmental challenges and opportunities facing the Philippines," said UN Environment Programme regional director for Asia and the Pacific Dechen Tsering.
"Global issues like climate change and plastic and air pollution are impacting all countries, and we are lucky to have advocates like Antoinette standing strong for the planet,” she added.
