With many fans wondering why Janine Berdin hasn’t been making appearances on television over the past couple of weeks, the Tawag ng Tanghalan Season 2 Grand Winner decided to break her silence on social media.

“Halu po! Good evening po sa inyong lahat. Marami pong nagtatanong kung bakit the past few weeks medyo naging inactive ako from Showtime and ASAP,” she began her post.

Apparently, she acquired vocal nodules or “hard, rough, noncancerous growths” according to health website Healthline - forcing her to take cortisol. Later on, she got diagnosed with Cushing’s Syndrome.

According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases of the U.S. Department of Health, Cushing’s Syndrome “is a disorder when one’s body produces too much hormone cortisol over a long period of time.”

“Early September nalaman po namin na may vocal nodules po ako, kaya kinailangan ko pong maging exposed sa cortisol o steroids para gumaling ito. Dahil po sa ganitong exposure ng cortisol, nagkaroon po ako ng Cushing’s Syndrome and am currently being treated for it,” she wrote.

Janine also revealed that her condition was the reason for the swelling of her face.

“Kaya po namamaga mukha ko. Hehe. Hindi po ako nagparetoke at alam ko po na hawig ko si Chuckie. At least hindi na ako mukhang undin ‘di ba? Charot,” she stated.

The 17-year-old singer also revealed that she decided to take break rather than compromise her voice.

“On a more serious note po, sumali ako sa Tawag ng Tanghalan to inspire everyone by doing what I love to do - that is singing. If my voice will be compromised, mas masakit ‘yun for me. Mas masakit ‘yun kesa sa mga masasakit na salita niyo dahil hindi kayo nagagandahan or natatabaan kayo sa mukha ko.”

She went on: “Now, as I learn to become a more respectful daughter, I can say that this is still my craft which I want to be the best at. I give my respect to all artists who don’t just easily conform.”

While there isn't a need to say sorry, Janine made an apology for what could probably be a significant change in her physical appearance. Then again, she reassured her fans that she's not going to stop singing.

“With everything said, I hope you forgive me if I’m not visually up to par with your standards anymore or ever since; you can unfollow me, but I will still sing. And I will never stop singing. Because that is what I want, what I have hoped for, and I am,” she stated.

She also thanked her fans and her bashers alike for inspiring her to get better every day.

“Thank you din po sa mga buttercups ko. I miss you guys as well! Just as much, actually even more! At alam kong medyo weird ito. Pero thank you sa mga bashers ko. Actually isa kayo sa mga reasons talaga kung bakit sinisipagan kong magpagaling,” she wrote.

She then ended her post by saying: “Miss ko na pong kumanta. Kaya see you all soon! I love you all po. Ingat tayo lagi.”
