James Reid has been open about his personal struggles in showbiz and how he once felt like giving up when asked by Boy Abunda on <a href='https://entertainment.abs-cbn.com/tv/shows/tonightwithboyabunda/main'>Tonight with Boy Abunda</a>.The actor shared how his girlfriend Nadine Lustre helped him go through his personal challenges.“Many times. Most of the times before Nadine and I got together, I could say that was probably the height of my depression. Serious enough for me to wanted to just drop everything and say goodbye to everything,” he said.“I was still so affected by what fans said. At the time I was still so affected by what people are telling me everything like that,” he added.James decided to go to Japan alone and reflected. When he came back, that’s when he and Nadine ‘kicked off.’“With her I didn’t have to pretend to be anyone and I could just be myself completely it’s liberating for me. In the end, she became the only one I wanted to please. She definitely helped me through the… probably the darkest time of my life and I’ve been there to hers,” he said.“No one understood me the way that she did and I couldn’t talk to anyone else about my problems. Being able to share it with someone because it would just bottle it all up and try to forget it, it doesn’t work that way like pain shared is half the pain,” he added.In Nadine’s previous interviews, she was also vocal about her depression and how her beau James helped her, too.
