After doing The Significant Other last year, Lovi Poe returns to the big screen in the upcoming Regal Films drama The Annulment which pairs her with longtime friend Joem Bascon for the first time. “Ako si Gary dito at asawa ako ni Sherwin and pagdadaanan namin ang iba’t ibang stages of relationships and eventually mauuwi yun sa proseso ng annulment,” she shared during The Annulment Grand Launch held last October 23 in Quezon city.
During their first shooting day, Lovi admitted she and Joem were still trying to get comfortable playing husband and wife who go through challenging marital problems. “Last year pa yun eh. Well yung vibe is parang nagpapakiramdaman kami kasi siyempre first day lang, kailangan namin malaman yung rhythm or yung flow ng set. Na-discover ko about him is nag-be-breakdown siya sa love scenes. Hindi na niya kaya. Mas nauna pa siyang nag-breakdown tapos sasabihin ko sa kanya, ‘Kaya mo yan’ (laughs). Because that was our last love scene already so parang nag-break down na siya. Hindi na niya kinaya,” she recalled.
With the film’s initial trailer showing steamy love scenes between her and Joem, Lovi defended their project as more than just a sexy film. “We’re not doing love scenes just for the heck of it of doing love scenes. It was more about showing different stages of love, like honeymoon stage, making love when you’re angry or when you’re bored, different stages of love,” she explained.
With the film tackling the issue of annulment head on, Lovi said it is not a black and white issue. “Eventually while shooting along the way mas madami kaming natutunan about it. Personally speaking, in general I feel like as a couple, it’s basically separating from each other. So I don’t know if it’s a better alternative. But it’s not about being pro or against it kasi ang tao iba iba naman yung mga opinyon niyan sa mga ganitong bagay. At the end of the day, I think the bottomline is, when you enter a relationship, lahat naman ng tao na pumapasok sa isang relasyon, they want it to work out. They don’t want it to fail so the bottomline is, it really is up to the person or the couple if they still want to work things out. But there are some things nga talaga na hindi mo na maaayos. So nasa desisyon talaga yun,” she shared.
The Annulment stars Lovi Poe, Joem Bascon, Myrtle Sarrosa, and Laura Lehmann and is directed by MacArthur Alejandre under Regal Films. It opens in theaters on November 13.
