Gretchen Ho shares her newfound love for solo travel, competitive racing, and a volleyball comeback.
After an impressive showing on the court during this year’s All Star volleyball games, Gretchen Ho said she is slowly returning to her first love. “Nung All Star games we trained together sa high school team ng teammate ko so meron pa kaming secret training apart from the practice. Ngayon I’m actually still training, may mga liga liga ako but not in the pros. And then they’re inviting me also to practice with the pro team so nagpapa-condition lang ako ngayon. And I still cycle, I still run tapos race. Ang dami nga pero ang sarap kas feeling ko nag-ko-cross training ako,” she shared.
The Celeteque endorser admitted she is also confident behind the wheel, even after hearing of other celebrity racers getting into accidents on the racetrack. “Actually hindi kasi kung tatanungin mo sila lahat ako yung safest driver. Pero nag-po-podium ako. Maybe because I know how to manage my emotions behind the wheel, I know what to do, I read my opponents. Meron akong strategy coming into every race. Kaya siguro hindi ako nababangga. Pero na-try ko na din mag-spin tapos bumangga na din ako pero that was two years ago. So I learned form that and applied it until now. So hindi mo maiiwasan sa racing kasi part talaga yung mababangga ka. Pero ayoko kasi ng stress because I don’t want to take anybody off the race so I try to pass them the cleanest way possible or win the cleanest way possible. Controlled aggression (laughs). Kasi lahat tayo gusto manalo and be competitive pero kailangan i-ma-manage mo yung emotions mo and be able to channel it to the right places,” she explained.
During a recent trip to Europe, Gretchen said she enjoyed being a solo traveler for the very first time. “I think it helps me grow a lot. I’ve been used to traveling with my mom or for work with friends. But it’s really a different experience when you travel alone. When you get that chance to be alone in a certain place, you discover more of it, you discover more of it, you immerse, you get to talk to more people and they are also not afraid to approach you and then you get to know who you are better,” she said.
Having to do everything on her own was a good experience for the Umagang Kay Ganda host. “Super funny kasi sabi ko nga sa mga kaibigan ko parang ngayon lang ako nagdadalaga (laughs). Kasi ngayon mas nag-aayos na ako tapos I do style myself also in the morning already. I buy clothes. When dati inaasa ko lang sa stylist. Tapos ngayon mas nagiging kikay na ako and when I went to Ireland, I had to put on my makeup and fix my hair and do photo shoots on my own. Mag-isa na ako doon. So I had to ask strangers to take my photos. So sobrang suwerte kasi okay pa din naman lumabas,” she recalled.
