Roxanne Barcelo captivated the hearts of It’s Showtime judges and viewers as she fulfilled the wish of her late father by performing on the celebrity edition of ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ Wednesday.
The actress took the stage with a heartfelt rendition of the ballad classic "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." During her interview portion, together with hosts Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis, Roxanne revealed that it had been one of his father’s last wishes for him to hear her sing again before passing away last July.
“One month kasi siya before mamatay, mi-nessage niya ako, parang may instinct or intuition na may pagano’n. Ti-next niya ako sabi niya ’kanta ka, anak’ in capital letters, sabi niya ’sayang anak,’” an emotional Roxanne said.
“Kasi wala namang nakikinig sa akin kumanta, tatay ko lang,”
Roxanne admitted that she had qualms about performing on ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’, but decided to go anyway in honor of her father.
“‘Yung sa acting kaya kong ibigay 125,000 percent. Pero pagdating sa singing kasi parang huhugutin ko talaga siya, hahalukayin ko siya sa ilalim ng lupa bago ko siya mailabas,” she said.
“Pero sabi ko kay tatay, ‘Sige hahalukayin ko ang ube na ’yan para lang maitawid ko ang pag-awit. Kahit isang kanta lang,” she added.
It can be recalled that her win as first-runner up in the Metropop singing search paved the way for Roxanne’s showbiz career in 1999.
In the end, Roxanne was named celebrity champion of the day.
