Jon Santos opens the year onstage along with Eric Nicolas and Marissa Sanchez.
As the country’s most popular impersonator, Jon Santos opens the year with a major stand up show featuring two of the most controversial political figures titled Trumperte ATBP. “I’m really stoked that these kinds of shows that I do, political satire, comedy, spoof, ay may lugar din sa season ng Resorts World Manila. These two politicians I think very strong ang feelings natin sa kanila. We’ll stay interested in them,” he shared during the show’s press conference held last January 23 in Pasay City.
Even though both presidents were sworn into office in 2016, Jon revealed the reason it took him some time to gain confidence to finally impersonate them onstage. “Ang confidence level ko to tackle these two very controversial characters were leveled up, mas dinaga ako. I had the feeling that the country was so divided. So may kalahati mag-e-enjoy, may kalahati napikon. So I had that impression na parang ang hirap atang challenge yun. First time ko nakaramdam ng ganung klaseng uncertainty. Then I realized meron at meron talagang bagay that would unite us and it took that long,” he explained.
Jon said it was important to do a lot of research before bringing to life the two characters of “McDonald Trump” and “Du-thirty Harry.” That means go signal yun na puwede na i-joke. Di ba may kasabihan na comedy is tragedy plus time? Aba after a while natatawanan na nila. After a while ginagawa na ng ibang comedian. After a while tinatawanan na nung sariling tao. After a while tinatawanan na ni Trump ang sarili niyang buhok,” he shared.
Another challenge Jon had for impersonating the American president was getting the look just right. Ang hirap hirap,” he said. In his one-night only show on February 13, Jon said he is not worried about getting any backlash from the figures he is going to impersonate. At saka they know how to deal with media, they know how to deal with exposes, they know how to deal with tabloids and how to deal with TV shows. They know how to deal with comedy and comedians,” he added.
