"Sobra akong privileged."
This was how JM de Guzman described his feeling when he was offered the stint to revive Rivermaya's hit song "214" for the upcoming Black Sheep film Alone/Together (READ: LizQuen's 'Alone Together' first teaser, gets more than 1 million views in three hours).
According to JM, the song actually played a big part of his childhood. "Mahirap galawin ‘yung kantang ‘yun. Kahit noong kabataan ko, isa ‘yun sa mga bumuo sa akin," he stated in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
JM relayed that it was Star Music Audio Content Head Jonathan Manalo who referred him to Alone/Together director Antoinette Jadaone. “Natutuwa ako na binigyan nila ako ng trust. Sinubukan ko ibigay ‘yung best ko," he said.
His version was admired by many fans upon hearing it in the Alone/Together teaser. According to the actor-singer, he collaborated with Jonathan and music producer Kiko Salazar to calibrate the new version of the song. "'Yung areglo talaga nila maganda, eh. Kahit siguro sinong artist na mag-revive noon sa ganu’ng areglo, maganda talaga kakalabasan," he stated. He also shared that he had a rock version of "214" and a soft version but he opted to go with the soft version since Alone/Together is a love story.
The full track of his "214" version will be released in the first week of February.
