It’s confirmed: award-winning filmmaker Joey Javier Reyes will helm the movie.
A third installment for the internationally acclaimed comedy film Ang Babae sa Septic Tank is now shooting, filmmaker Joey Javier Reyes confirmed on Instagram last Monday.
“ANG BABAE SA SEPTIC TANK 3: The Real Untold Story of Josephine Bracken – NOW FILMING! #behappy,” announced the director, along with a group photo with several members of the cast and crew.
Among them were Tony Labrusca, Nico Antonio, and the movie’s main star, Eugene Domingo. Beside her was an actor dressed as the Philippine national hero, Jose Rizal.
Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank debuted in 2011 under the lead of director Marlon Rivera and writer-producer Chris Martinez. It then starred JM de Guzman, Kian Cipriano, and Cai Cortez. The film revolved around three aspiring filmmakers’ intent to create a movie that will earn them international recognition and accolades.
In the same year, Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank was submitted to the 2011 Academy Awards as the Philippines’ official entry for Best Foreign Film. Later, it swept awards at the 7th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival as the body’s chosen Best Picture, Audience Choice Awards, Best Director for Marlon, Best Screenplay for Chris, and Best Performance of an Actress for Eugene.
The film was an official entry to the 6th Asian Film Awards held in Hong Kong in 2012 as well, having scored a win as People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Actress for Eugene and a nomination as Best Screenwriter for Chris.
Its second installment, Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 2: #ForeverIsNotEnough, was released four years later as an official entry to the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival.
