EXCLUSIVE: Sue Ramirez on fighting back at bashers: ‘Gusto ko rin sana isulong yung social media as a platform to change the world’

After exposing a basher on Twitter last month, Sue Ramirez said she was happy to finally put an end to the online bullying and harassment she experienced from that netizen. “Nag-work naman kasi dinelete niya lahat ng comments niya and never na niya ako inano ulit. Wala na ngang umaano sa akin kasi baka kakasuhan ko na sila next time na gagawin nila sa akin yun. Parang ginagamit na kasi yung social media para makialam sa buhay ng ibang tao,” she shared during the Dead Kids presson held last January 21.

The Dead Kids actress admitted the incident has empowered her to not back down anymore when she sees injustice happening online. “Parang this time I think parang I’m stronger to face them now. Kasi dati parang nonchalant lang ako eh, parang wala lang akong pakialam. Hinayaan ko lang na people would treat me like this pero ngayon kasi mas hopeful ako na ilabas yung goodness sa mga tao, na parang ayoko na lang mag-settle sa norm. Yun yung gusto ko. Kung kaya kong baliin, babaliin ko talaga,” she explained.

Sue said that she now believes that for things to change, she must put her foot down and help improve the situation for herself and celebrities like her who get attacked online with no just cause. “You have to put them talaga in their place na itigil na natin kasi sumosobra na rin yung mga tao minsan. Meron akong pinost at rineplyan na isang basher, sabi ko, ‘If you don’t stop harassing me I will take action against you. There are laws against cyberbullying and I’m not afraid to use my right against them.’ Kaya sabi ko huwag niyo na lang antayin na may gumanti or lumaban sa inyo na bina-bash ninyong artista. I’m not talking about not only me but sa aming lahat, kahit sila Kisses (Delavin), sila Maymay (Entrata), grabe yung mga pamba-bash na natatanggap ng mga bata and parang hindi na talaga tama. Hindi dapat natin siya tanggapin na normal. Gamitin natin yung boses natin, yung meron tayo para baguhin yung sistema na nakasanayan na natin na hindi naman dapat. So yun gusto ko rin sana isulong yung social media as a platform to change the world,” she said.

In her new millennial-themed movie, Sue hopes viewers can learn an important lesson and do better things with their lives after watching it. “Sobrang thankful ako na nagkaroon ng movie na ganito na talagang socially relevant nga naman sa panahon natin ngayon. Ito kasing movie na ito ang daming mapupulot na mga kabataan. It’s not your usual pa-tweetums, kilig film. Hindi ka pakikiligin ng boys na ‘to. Panginginigin nila kayo. Yun ang mangyayari dito. So manginginig kayo sa movie na ‘to, mapapakapit kayo sa mga upuan niyo at mapapasaya namin kayo through this movie. I’m very excited na simulan na ito agad,” she said.
