Local theater fans were proud when Filipino actresses Rachelle Ann Go and Christine Allado got cast last year in the West End version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hugely successful musical Hamilton. But this year, fans have an even bigger reason to celebrate when reports came out that New York-based actor Marc dela Cruz became the first actor with Filipino roots to play the lead role Alexander Hamilton on Broadway.

On his Instagram account, Marc describes himself as “Hawai’i born, Seattle raised, New York based actor, singer, yoga instructor and amateur pie man.” Marc first joined the Broadway cast of Hamilton last month initially as part of the ensemble before eventually landing the titular role.
